Volunteer as an Asthma Champion

Print

What is an Asthma Champion?

A member of the school community (parent, teacher, volunteer, etc) with an interest in asthma and a desire to assist the school in becoming an Asthma-Friendly place.

What is the Role of an Asthma Champion?

An Asthma Champion would work with the Public Health Nurse in planning asthma awareness-raising activities and distributing information for students, teachers and parents.

For example an Asthma Champion might help to organize an assembly or poster contest, arrange for P.A. announcements about asthma or maintain an asthma bulletin board in the school.

Why Have an Asthma Champion at the School?

  • On average, about 4 children have asthma in a class of 30
  • Asthma is a leading cause of absence from school
  • The more everyone works together to create an asthma friendly school, the easier it will be for those children with asthma to keep it in control and participate fully in all activities
